Catherine McGrath

Licensed Midwife

Yoga teacher

It is my deepest belief that “Peace on Earth begins with birth” and that we can change the future of this world one birth at a time.

Why I am
a midwife

I began assisting birth at the age of 19 after I had several childhood friends have babies in their teen years. I was exposed early on to a medical system that gave women no support in education, informed choice and empowerment due to their age or socioeconomic status. I witnessed trauma to those women and babies which perpetuated the cycle of broken family bonds and hardship. It is my deepest belief that when women are empowered through informed choice and education we can change the future of families. The way we birth our babies is one of the best ways we can create change on this planet. Planting seeds of intention, love and support from the first moment we interact with the world creates more peaceful and loving humans deeply bonded to their mothers and their planet. Peace on Earth begins with birth!

My Midwife
story

I became a certified Doula at the age of 19 through DONA. At the age of 20 I became a certified yoga instructor through The International Sivananda School of Yoga. I both trained and lived on the ashram for 3 months and returned as staff annually for 10 years following my training. I worked as a staff Doula in hospital for 2 years where I supported labor and delivery, postpartum and NICU families.

I became inspired by the nurse midwives working in that hospital and moved to Austin TX where I began my midwifery training under both certified professional midwives and nurse midwives in a high volume birthing center. I trained and worked at that facility for 11 years where I attended over 800 births and became licensed in Texas. At the Austin birth center I founded and ran the prenatal yoga program which provided free yoga to those women and is still running today. I then moved to California for 7 years where I worked as a Monitress, supporting women having hospital births labor at home and making informed decisions to reduce medical intervention.

I moved back to Austin TX in 2022 to join a private group home birth practice. I have attended well over 1000 births in my 18 year career and after working in all settings, hospital, birth center and home, I truly believe that home birth is the best option for low risk women and babies. It would be my honor to serve you and your growing family during this sacred journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.

It would be my honor to serve you and your growing family during this sacred journey of pregnancy, birth and postpartum.
